Wacht Am Weekend

Just a taster....

First Germans are almost done using figures lying around. Some more stands in greatcoats, plus some Fallschrimjager with scarves and balaclavas are in the pipe. I also quite fancy a SturmTiger for the fun of it!

The figs are based on the small FOW bases, in this case MDF ones from Warbases.co.uk. We going to use use Axis and Allies Miniatures rules (available as download), but the figs and vehicles will be kosher 15's. The scale and depth of Axis and Allies Miniatures game fits with our Pizzabase gaming concept and has proved fun in the past.

Really being inspired by this small side project and I expect it to reflect on my other gaming in days to come.

Cheers
Mark

  1. Great stuff. Your blog has inspired my project on gaming an alternative timeline to the War in Angola 1975-89 see http://warforslowreaders.blogspot.com/

One question - I'm unclear what the Pizzabase gaming concept means but I'm intrigued...please can you tell me more? 1000 thanks

The Pizzagame concept came from our 15mm Sci Fi gaming. In brief, it was take a playing areas the size of a 12" pizzabase and throw together a quick, fun game. Think 'beer & pretzels' but the important thing wasn't to sweat about filling a table with terrain, just the key areas and for throw away skirmish games - a single Pizzabase was perfect.

Obviously for Panzers etc we are going to have to use a larger playing surface but it's about keeping it simple, distilling the essence of the Bulge, albeit slightly pulp, and maximising the fun. Plus extending the fun to getting the armies together through not sweating all the stuff that can make it a chore.

  3. What stat cards are you using for A&AM Mark? I've downloaded the rules for a look at but would need stat cards for vehicles and infantry to play...

  4. Hi Steve.

Not sure to be honest. Maff gave me a link and I downloaded them. I've subsequently found cards on the Wizards of the Coast website and fan forums such as this one: http://aaminis.myfastforum.org/index.php?component=forum&forumid=7

I'll ask Maff to spill the beans.

  5. Steve,

I originally had the minis and rules but gave them to some guys in work. Then of course I had the idea of using them for 15mm. I found this site:

    http://www.axisandallies.org/p/historical_house_rules_hhr_for_axis_allies_miniatures/

I've not looked at it in too much detail to assess what the historical changes are; I've played a game of desert rats vs DAK and it worked - the veteran Aussies held the ridge against the Ramcke while, due to my random set up, the centre was covered by both sides AT and thus a messy light armour vs 2pdr portee duel developed on the right flank. It ended with a gallant attack by the DAK motorcycle unit which threatened the portee but was clobbered by some Aussies who were dashed across to stabilise things.

on that form Id say, it has potential as great fun game in the Airfix tradition; a late war, Downfall, style German force would be great to put together. You only need one King Tiger as that will be 70% of your points!

    Cheers

Having a bag of Peter Pig 1940 French bought in a fit of stupidity, Watch Am Weekend provided some inspiration and A&AM looked like some old school fun!
